Give-a-day: 72 hole golf challenge

Who said you can never have too much of a good thing?

At InfoSec People we offer each employee a “Give-a-day”, a volunteer scheme in which staff can take a working day to volunteer and/or raise money for charity. Our Cyber Sales Recruitment Partner, James Wood, was all too keen to bring his love of golf and charitable nature together for his Give-a-day!

James and two of his former school friends are all huge golfers and set a goal of playing a 72 hole (4 rounds of 18) golf challenge to raise money for St Richard’s Hospice, a Malvern charity that supports people who have serious progressive illnesses and have complex needs which cannot be met by other services, helping more than 3,400 people in Worcestershire.

This challenge is well known in the golf world, in which four rounds of golf is played on the longest day of the year. The team of three started tee off at 4:50am on Monday June 21st at the Worcestershire Golf Club in Malvern for their first round of 18 holes.

Throughout the day they were joined by various special guests to help around the course, including current Club Captain and The King’s School teacher Andrew Longley, and a known member of the club Thomas Brainwood.

The trio each walked over 20 miles (around 40,000 steps) across all four rounds, unfortunately some of the day was spent in the rain, finishing the challenge late into the evening around 9:30pm (over 16 hours of golfing!).

Hoping to raise £1,000 for St Richard’s Hospice, they reached their goal the day before the challenge and surpassed it by the time they started playing, so far raising over £1,500 (50% above target) with still more donations coming in, if you’d like to donate or find out more details about the day, head over to their Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/72holegolfchallengeglc

Fantastic work from all three golfers, well done!
