Spotlight: BSides Cheltenham

InfoSec People are proud to be sponsoring BSides Cheltenham this year! We spoke Illyana Mullins, Founder of BSides Cheltenham, to find out more about the conference.

BSides was originally founded in Las Vegas in 2009, when a number of quality speakers were rejected from the more traditional corporate-run security conferences. The aim was to provide a more accessible, collaborative, and inclusive environment for security professionals to share their research, knowledge, and experiences. Since then, the BSides movement has spread globally, with events being held in various countries, including the UK.

BSides Cheltenham was relaunched last year after the original group was dissolved during lockdown, with the aim of bringing cyber security professionals, students and hobbyists together to share ideas, innovation and technical fun. BSides Cheltenham had over 225 attendees from near and far representing academia, hobbyists, red team and blue team. You can see past year talks on our website https://www.cheltenhambsides.org.uk/2022.

This year BSides Cheltenham are going back to the future, celebrating where cyber security has come from and where it is going, with plenty of 80s cheese to go around. The conference will feature a mix of talks, workshops, and interactive session on a range of security-related topics, including cryptography, threat intelligence and social engineering.  There will be a main stage, giving a platform for experienced professionals and academics, Alongside a side stage, for smaller more intimate talks that allow those without speaking experience to give a talk in a controlled safe environment.

In addition to the formal sessions, BSides Cheltenham also provides ample opportunities for attendees to network and interact with their peers. The event has a relaxed and informal atmosphere, with a focus on building a sense of community and encouraging open dialogue. In fact, the after party is not one to be missed.

The best thing about this conference is that it is organised by a team of volunteers who are passionate about information security and believe in the importance of collaboration and community-building – meaning this really is an event that is by the people and for the people, which wouldn’t be possible without the support of our amazing sponsors such as Infosec People.

Overall, BSides Cheltenham continues grow and aims to be one of the premier events in the UK information security calendar over the next couple of years.

From the BSides Cheltenham Team we hope to see everyone there on June 3rd at the Cheltenham Racecourse.

The second set of tickets for Cheltenham BSides will be on sale April 15 – set a reminder so you don’t miss out! The first batch sold out within 30 minutes.
